I've been getting hardsubs where they're the only thing available, but as much as possible I've tried to get my hands on some. This is why I have been trying to get all the content I can, catalog it, and store it somewhere safe so that in 10 years we'll still have the originals. Dead links from filehosts going down, streaming services that no longer exist, and copyright takedowns. The forums, subreddit, translator's blogs/sites and what have you are an absolute graveyard. None of this is actually a problem as long as you can still find the original files.
